Our Story
How We Started
In 2019, Twenty five community members took a course called “Designing Our Own Solutions”. We learned the significance of Permaculture principles for watershed design such as “Slow IT, Spread IT and Sink IT, and low impact design techniques to address coastal adaptation and flooding issues.
Our Why
Marin City chronically floods for several reasons. One of the reasons include the steep hills of the Marin Headlands surrounding it. There’s only one way in and out of Marin City.
We needed to discover new solutions to improve Marin City’s response and resilience in face of this issue.
Empowering Our Community
Our solution is an innovative program called “The Watershed Stewardship Program”. It aims to put our community at the head of the planning process as well as leading the implementation as we practice “Community Driven Resiliency Planning”.
Our Program raises awareness and activate community members, home owners, youth and community groups to design and implement nature-based adaptation solutions that address flooding problems related to climate change driven extreme storm events.
